With many changes coming to the Santa Barbara Airport, the Service Animal Relief Area or SARA was identified as a much needed improvement. Currently, the Santa Barbara Airport provides a SARA behind the Historic Terminal, near Gate 5, but will soon change to a larger, and more accessible location, closer to the Main Terminal entrances. The new area will be enclosed by a fence providing a fresh new look and include new features like permeable turf, a water fountain and dog basin, hand sanitizer, and doggie bags. The area will also be ADA accessible so all owners can accompany their service animals and pets as well. In addition, the adjacent lawns are anticipated to receive a drought-friendly grassy makeover. These changes will take effect in 2023 and make Santa Barbara Airport one step closer to achieving its full accessibility goals.
