About Santa Barbara Airport
Santa Barbara Airport has provided commercial and general aviation services to the Tri-County region for over 90 years. SBA is served by five major airlines: Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, and United. These airlines offer daily nonstop flights to 13 domestic destinations, and one-stop connections to thousands more destinations around the world. SBA serves more than 1.4 million passengers each year, providing essential transportation service for both residents and visitors alike.
Santa Barbara Airport encompasses 952 acres:
- 400 acres - Aviation use
- 100 acres - Commercial/Industrial
- 430 acres - Goleta Slough State Marine Park
Santa Barbara Airport is owned and operated by the City of Santa Barbara as an enterprise fund. The Airport Department generates its revenues from rental of property and fees from various aviation-related activities.
Chumash History
Santa Barbara Airport is located on the ancestral lands of the Chumash people. The Chumash were the first inhabitants of this region and serve as its original stewards. The Airport specifically sits on what is now known as the Goleta Slough - an area that has a long and rich history for the Chumash people. The area was originally home to a thriving population of Chumash residents, including the village of Helo', for thousands of years.
