Even in Santa Barbara Arrive 60 Minutes Early
It is recommended that passengers check-in 60 minutes before flights (90 minutes before international flights). The Airline Terminal opens at 3:45 a.m. so there is no need to arrive at the Terminal prior to that time. Please allow more time if you are traveling during the holidays or peak travel times.

Security
When you travel, you will encounter visible and frequent security checks, including screening passengers and carry-on baggage. Just prior to boarding, passengers will have identification and boarding passes checked again. You will see uniformed law enforcement personnel at the Airline Terminal. In addition, many security procedures occur behind the scenes, such as searching aircraft and cargo. Security screening processes for checked baggage include a combination passenger bag-matching and explosive detection technology.

Baggage check-in
In compliance with U.S. federal government security regulations, bags may only be checked within four hours of departure. Also, for your convenience it is advisable to pack medicines, jewelry and other valuables in your carry-on baggage rather than checking bags containing these items.

Carry-on baggage limits
Carry-on limits for flights within the U.S. and on international flights are now one bag per passenger, along with one personal item (purse, briefcase or laptop, note: backpacks are not considered personal items).

No dangerous objects
In compliance with the US federal government, the airlines do not allow sharp or dangerous objects to be taken beyond airport security checkpoints. This restriction includes knives, cutting tools of any kind, scissors, corkscrews, cigarette lighters, metal nail files, straight edge razors, baseball bats, golf clubs or ski poles. Examples of items that are permitted on flights include walking canes, nail clippers, safety razors, syringes, tweezers and umbrellas.

Effective January 1, 2008, the Department of Transportation (DOT) through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will no longer allow loose lithium batteries in checked baggage. Learn more
