Airport Storm Water

Storm water discharges from Airport property are regulated by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).  As authorized by the Clean Water Act, the NPDES permit program controls water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States.

All Airport storm water is subject to regulation under the Phase II Municipal Separate Storm SewerSystem (MS4) program, while discharges from industrial areas of the Airport are also subject to additional industrial storm water discharge requirements.

Permit Compliance

To protect the quality and reduce the quantity of storm water that enters the City's municipal storm water collection, and to comply with the conditions of the Phase II MS4 General Permit, the Airport worked with other City of Santa Barbara Departments to develop a Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP).

Santa Barbara's SWMP Annual Reports

Compliance with the General Industrial Storm Water Discharge Permit through development and implementation of an Airport Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) & associated Map, helps to prevent potential pollutants from being carried via storm water from industrial areas of the facility to the Goleta Slough.

Comments

Comments and questions regarding the Airport's portion of the SWMP, SWPPP and the overall Airport storm water program are welcome.  Please submit comments to Airport@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.
